Detroit has its new RoboCop as Prime Video puts Dan Stevens on patrol

Stevens will take on the role of Alex Murphy, originally played by Peter Weller in the 1987 scifi classic

Dan Stevens seems to be in pretty high demand these days, not that we're complaining. The Downton Abbey actor has been everywhere from the animated Among Us adaptation to the X-Men adjacent Legion TV show. And now, he's getting his dues with the titular role in a franchise almost 40 years old - as announced this week, Dan Stevens will be playing Alex Murphy, AKA RoboCop.

The news comes from Deadline, in an article published August 25. Stevens is the first official casting of the series, which has already enlisted veteran TV producer Peter Ocko as writer and James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett through Blumhouse Atomic Monster as executive producers. Prime Video greenlit the series in July of this year.

Interestingly, this isn't the only superhuman societal commentary piece that Stevens is working on. You may be aware of his upcoming role in Adam Wingard's Onslaught, which works the concept of super soldiers into a horror-leaning plotline. In Onslaught, though, Stevens plays the (mad) scientist responsible for turning man into a kind of machine, and not the victim of such machinations.

As of this writing, there is not release (or filming) date attached to the new RoboCop series. However, we'll be letting you know as soon as we learn one. In the meantime, the original RoboCop is streaming on Prime Video.
