Netflix won't let Squid Game die - especially when so many future contestants remain so willing to play

Netflix is bringing its reality show spin off Squid Game: The Challenge back in November 2025, with a third season already greenlit, because everyone wants to end their crushing debt

The fictional Squid Game might be over for now — there’s still that rumored US adaptation — but the real life version looks set to continue for some time to come with news that Netflix has set a debut date for the second season of the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge… and already renewed the show for a third go-round.

The first season of the reality show spinoff — which basically recreated the first season of the hit Korean drama relatively faithfully, but with less death (thankfully) — proved to be a gripping, if guilty, pleasure when it debuted in 2023, transforming the dystopian anti-capitalist message of the original series into… a somehow even more dystopian game show in which everyone wants to win $4.56 million to pay off their debts, only for most of them to fail at that task and end up still in crushing debt but now internationally publicly so.

Netflix is hoping to repeat the success of that first season — which debuted to 20.1 million views in its first week and stayed in the streamer’s Top 10 chart for five weeks — with the second, which will premiere on the service November 4. In addition to a teaser for the second season, which you can see below, Netflix promises “surprising new additions” to the games for the new season. Could it be someone actually dying? Could it?

(Okay, it won’t. There are limits, still.)

It’s not just a second season that fans can get excited for; Variety reports that the show has been renewed for a third season, as well. The horrors will continue as long as the intellectual property demands, after all.

Squid Game: The Challenge season 2 debuts November 2. The full series of the original Squid Game is available on Netflix now.
