It's weird to say it, but apparently people are doubting the authentic 80s-ness of Stranger Things season 5? Particularly in the outfit worn by series lead Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown. At least, that's what Stranger Things costume designer Amy Parris is saying, while also going on record to explain exactly the 80s icon that inspired our hero's latest look.
Speaking to People, Parris said that eleven's season 5 duds owe a great deal to The Goonies' Brand, played by Marvel's own Big Bad Number One, Josh Brolin. Well, that and another familiar face.
"[The costume is] mix of Josh Brolin from The Goonies and then Punky Brewster," Parris told the outlet, "With her mish-mash of cut-up clothes that she just kind of grabbed as she went."
We can' speak to the Punky Brewster of it all, loyal reader, but compare the outfit Eleven wears in the header image above to Brolin's costume in the Goonies, below, and you'll see Parris telling the truth.

A dead ringer, no?
"It’s funny," Parris concluded, "Because I’ve been starting to get comments from people that are like, 'Shorts over sweats?' And I’m like, it was absolutely a thing in the ‘80s! I knew this would be the reaction."
Stranger Things season 5 is on Netflix now, followed by volume 2 on December 25, and the ultimate finale of the series on December 31.
