Stranger Things creators got a wild gift from ‘Running Up That Hill’ songstress Kate Bush

Also, we're getting more of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill in Stranger Things season 5, says series co-creator Ross Duffer

Let's be clear on this one thing before we get started here: Kate Bush did not need Stranger Things to get famous. The singer/songwriter might as well have defined the generation of slightly eerie weirdos who are so important to the Netflix sci-fi hit's plot (and target audience) with 1970s and '80s hits like 'Wuthering Heights,' 'Babooshka,' and 'Don't Give Up'. But still, even Bush herself recognized that the show's fourth season helped her music reach a new generation of fans, and thanked series creators Matt and Ross Duffer accordingly.

The Duffers recently spoke to The Guardian about using Bush's classic number Running Up That Hill in a climactic moment from Stranger Things season 4, in which Sadie Sink's character Max uses the tune as psychic inspiration to fend of series Big Bad Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).

"We had no idea it would go viral in the way that it did," began Ross, "We were surprised, and Kate was surprised, by how much it connected with younger people. Kate thought that was really cool."

In fact, it connected so much, Ross told The Guardian, that there's going to be more of the song in Stranger Things' final season. But let's get to the point at hand - what kid of gift do you get when a legend like Kate Bush thinks you've done something cool with her music?

"We did get a gift from Kate Bush," Ross continued, "It was this gilded bird cage with animatronic birds inside it, and you wind it up, and the birds chirp a little song. It’s very cool, very unique and very Kate Bush. Only Kate Bush would give this present."

I mean, of course a Kate Bush gift would wow you. 'Wow' is kind of her thing.

Stranger Things season 5, volume one debuts November 26 on Netflix, followed by volume 2 on December 25, and the ultimate finale of the series on December 31.
