Stranger Things is coming to movie theaters for its season 5 finale this New Years' Eve

Netflix has decided the Stranger Things series finale is just too big for only the small screen, so they've partnered with AMC Theaters to bring it to a larger format

The Upside Down is coming to a theater near you.

Look, you had to know that Netflix would be pulling out all the stops when it came to the Stranger Things season 5 finale, right? I mean, it's the show that basically made Netflix what it is today (and is almost exclusively responsible for the Funko pop culture dominion, look it up) - does it surprise you that much that they're going to give the Hawkins gang the ultimate send-off: by showing the final episode in theaters nation-wide?

Well if that does surprise you, get ready to be downright shocked.

First brought up as an insider rumor by Matthew Belloni at Puck on October 16, Stranger Things evening at the theater was confirmed in a Netflix PR statement sent out October 23. Specifically, Netflix will be teaming up with AMC theaters to show the Stranger Things season 5 finale (which wraps the story of Eleven & Co.) on the same night that it begins streaming on the platform; that is, December 31. According to the statement, the finale will be shown in 350 AMC Theaters across the US and Canada starting Decemebr 31, 2025 at 5:00 PM PT, and running into January 1, 2026.

"We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters," said creators Matt and Ross Duffer in a statement to Netflix's Tudum, "It’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted [Sarandos Jr., co-chief executive officer of Netflix], Bela [Bajaria, chief content officer], and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure."

Sounds like a blast, gang. Now do I Think You Should Leave.

Stranger Things season 5, volume one debuts November 26 on Netflix, followed by volume 2 on December 25, and the ultimate finale of the series on December 31.
