Remember the reaction to the Game of Thrones final season? The Stranger Things cast was worried that'll happen to them too - until they read the scripts

Stranger Things season 5 is coming to Netflix this month and the cast were worried they'd end up remembered for the worst parts of Game of Thrones. Thankfully, the scripts helped ease their fears.

Being compared to Game of Thrones feels like a double-edged sword these days. Sure, it was one of the biggest hits in HBO history throughout its run, which any company is going to want to replicate. But then that last season happened, and suddenly no one wanted to see a repeat of that process. As Stranger Things approaches its final season on Netflix, the cast was rightly worried about how the grand finale would be received. That is, until they got the chance to read the scripts.

Expectations are notably high for Stranger Things season five, which is the capstone to a show that helped establish Netflix as the home of great original shows. However, it isn’t lost on the young cast of Stranger Things that the series’ legacy rides on how they stick the landing.

“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard said in an interview. “The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen.’ But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.”

The concern is real. Many of us remember how everyone was expecting the perfect ending to Game of Thrones, only for it to become one of the most disappointing and ridiculed shows in recent years. There are lots of dangling plot threads in Stranger Things season five, with key relationships needing a proper resolution after so many years. Can the Duffer Brothers deliver? The cast thinks so, but we’ll have to wait and see.
