McDonald's is coming to Stranger Things season 5 with a Happy Meal and special nuggy sauce - but there's a catch

McDonald's is bringing the world of Hawkins, Indiana to the rest of the world with their Stranger Things season 5 collab

McDonald's isn't afraid of a collaboration, even if that involves venturing into the Upside Down from Stranger Things.

In case you've been living under a rock (or perhaps in a bunker for the past 40 years), Stranger Things has become a global phenomenon. Netflix's show about a group of kids in suburban Indiana stumbling upon an MK-Ultra-esque experimental facility in their town has connected with audiences beyond North America. Now, with the fifth and final season of the show set to premiere later this month, McDonald's has unveiled a collaboration with Stranger Things, with one devastating catch.

The Stranger Things McDonald's box, in all of its Hellfire Dipping Sauce and collectible mini-figure glory, will only be available for fans in select countries outside of North America. Dexerto notes that the Stranger Things McDonald's box will be sold in countries like Spain, Portugal, and Argentina. Devastating!

It's curious that McDonald's would only release the Stranger Things box in countries outside of the one where the Netflix show actually takes place. I won't pretend that I know everything about what goes into pulling off a massive collaboration like this. But could it have anything to do with the tariff madness that's enveloped the US? At this point, we have no idea.

Because the Stranger Things meal won't be available in the US, fans have taken to social media to beg the Golden Arches to reconsider. We wish them luck.
