Taskmaster's YouTube success has led to an invite to the Hollywood Bowl
Had Taskmaster not decided to put their full episodes on YouTube 6 years ago, it might not be playing one of the biggest venues in LA later this year

Great news if you're a fan of Alex Horne and Greg Davies; bad news if you're a comedian whose subjected themselves to their special brand of social torture. Massively popular British comedy series Taskmaster, which has become a sensation in the US thanks to its YouTube presence, has just secured a spot at one of the most prestige performance venues in America: the world-famous Hollywood Bowl.
We learned about the development via a Deadline article dated June 10. According to the outlet, the team behind the quirky and ever-shifting competition show has announced that the Hollywood Bowl has invited them fro a live performance at their Los Angeles location, and as mentioned above, has credited this massive success to the numbers they've accumulated on YouTube.
"In the early days," explained Taskmaster executive producer Jon Thoday, "We had the ambition to make a U.S. version of Taskmaster [...] Ultimately, we woke up one day and thought we’ll just put the show on YouTube. From that day till now it’s grown every week… to the point where a lot of the traditional channels would actually like to have Taskmaster, but we like the fact that we’re in so many homes."
As I'm sure I don't have to tell you if you've been round these parts, loyal Popverse reader, this statement from a Taskmaster creator comes hot off the heels of some other notable YouTube-originating successes. As I'm writing this, Kane Parson's Backrooms is dominating traditional box office numbers while animated sensation The Amazing Digital Circus is doing incredible numbers via its limited theatrical screenings - both products of creators who took their work to YouTube before getting studios to back them up.
I'm just saying, if the Taskmaster ever tasked me with creating a viral sensation, I know which platform I'd start on.
Taskmaster's Hollywood Bowl dates are as of yet unannounced, but you can catch up on all of their episodes on their YouTube channel.
Why are Taskmaster judges Alex Horne & Greg Davies so beloved? Maybe it's because they're not too judgey.
