If there is one thing that Yellowstone has taught us, it is that people love a modern Western story. Sure, watching a cowboy play lawman in the Old West is good, but telling the simple story of someone trying to survive in a changing world speaks to all of us on some level. If you’re bummed that Yellowstone is coming to an end soon, don’t worry – Netflix has brought us Territory out to keep you satisfied.
On its surface, Territory is basically Yellowstone with an Australian accent, but it does go a bit farther than Paramount’s hit show in some areas. There is a stronger focus on the tension between traditional landowners and the current owners of the Marianne Station in Territory. Plus, it is tough not to love the beautiful landscapes of Australia, especially when compared with the dreary land of Montana. Of course, Netflix’s Territory doesn’t come with the star power of Kevin Costner, but the cast does a decent enough job throughout.
If you loved the family drama and political machinations of Yellowstone and can’t stand the fact that it is going away, Territory is one of the best replacements you’ll find. There is a reason that it has become one of the most-watched shows on Netflix – people love seeing modern cowboys dealing with soap opera-esque plot twists and backstabbing. Adding an accent to that formula doesn’t make us love it any less.
Territory is currently available to stream on Netflix, while Yellowstone’s final season begins streaming on November 10, 2024.
