Elisabeth Moss teases that she'll reprise her Handmaid's Tale character in Hulu's upcoming sequel The Testaments

June Orborne's story is over (for now) after the recent Handmaid's Tale season 6 finale, but the actor who plays her isn't done just yet

May 27 saw the tenth and final episode of The Handmaid's Tale season 6, wrapping up a smash-hit, culturally poignant story that has been on the top of so many watch lists since it began in 2017. And while the finale certainly served as a send-off for the main character, June Osborne, it may not actually the last time we see her on our screens. At least, not according to the woman that plays her, Elisabeth Moss.

In case you weren't aware, the next chapter in the saga began by The Handmaid's Tale is a story called The Testaments, based on the sequel novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a (spoiler heavy!) article published the night of the series finale, Moss confirmed that she'd be open to returning to the role of Osborne, while not confirming that she definitely will.

"I think the thing that I love the most about our finale," Moss said, "Is that June's story isn't over. And obviously, I don't know, and even if I did know, I couldn't say what happens next, but I love that I don't necessarily have to say goodbye to that world and that character. I love that. I've finished shows before, and you definitely have a feeling of like, 'This is it. This is the last time I'm going to get to be this person.' And although I don't know yet if or when June's coming back, I love that she's not done. I love it. I love playing that character so much, and she's probably my favorite I've ever played at this point. And so of course, I don't want that to end."

Again, we feel the need to emphasize that this is not a confirmation of Moss's return as June Osborne. After all, Moss has a busy schedule ahead, with a role as real-life congresswoman Katie Hill among other things on the horizon. Add that to the fact that we still don't have a release date for The Testaments season 1, and we're left with a big ol' question mark about Moss's future involvement with the franchise.

The Handmaid's Tale is streaming (in full!) now on Hulu.
