You may know Jennifer Ehle from her role as Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC's 1990s Pride and Prejudice mini-series adaptation. But she's been itching for an opportunity to expand beyond Jane Austen, something that's evident in her more recent work as Gabriella on The Vampire Lestat. Gabriella is Lestat's mother... and also a vampire.
At ATX TV Festival 2026, The Vampire Lestat showrunner and executive producer Rolin Jones spoke about how much the role of Gabriella means to Jennifer Ehle. "What I think is really cool is that Jennifer Ehle has had this really brilliant career. I've worked with her twice before on things that almost nobody saw. And I think I saw one of the five greatest theatre performances in my life, she was in The Real Thing on Broadway. And she's been sitting there for thirty years, for fuckin thirty-five - whatever it is - for casting directors, to say, 'Hey, can I play something like this?' And so there's this massive chip on her shoulder that you're going to see in this performance to say, 'I can scare the shit out of you, I can unsettle you,'" Jones teased.
Let's also remember that Jennifer Ehle played Amanda, a terminally ill woman, in Rose Glass's hypnotic religious horror movie, Saint Maud, in 2019. So she's been inching towards horror these past few years. It is refreshing to see her sink her teeth (ha) into a role like Gabriella, though, on a longterm project like The Vampire Lestat.
The Vampire Lestat is streaming now on AMC+ with new episodes dropping every Sunday.
