What happens to the Louvre Museum in a zombie pandemic? The Walking Dead: Book of Darryl cast explain
After working so hard to get the right to film in the Louvre, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of Carol showrunner explains that they wanted to make sure they used the location as a focal point for the story.

One of the tragedies of a zombie apocalypse is that, along with the incalculable loss of life, is the damage done to every part of human civilization. No one is going to take care of our art when zombies come knocking on the door, so places like the Louvre would become husks of what they once were. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol made a point of showing exactly what might happen to the Louvre during a zombie apocalypse, but getting there took a lot of work.
As you might imagine, getting to film in the Louvre is no easy task. During a panel at New York Comic-Con 2024, showrunner David Zabel explained just how long that process took. “The Louvre was one of the top, top wishlists when went to France and we were talking about places where we wanted to go and ruin them with, with the, the apocalypse. And that took about a year of planning to get there, you know. And it was a tremendous amount of planning, a tremendous amount of work to be able to do it.”
With some of the most famous pieces of art in human history within its iconic walls, it was never a guarantee that The Walking Dead would get to film there. However, once all that hard work was lined up, they knew they needed to make it a focal point for the story in season two of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. “[Marion] Genet’s story sort of evolved out a little bit out of how can we fully use the Louvre and see it now and see it before. See it in both time frames.” During the season two episode titled L'Invisible, we get to see just how hard the French government fought to protect the Louvre from the zombie hordes only to fall and lose most of the artwork in the process.
