Norman Reedus explains the real meaning of The Walking Dead: “Look to your friends for help”

If you ask the average person on the street what The Walking Dead is about, chances are they’ll say zombies. And, in a way, they're right; the walkers are certainly a memorable part of the AMC hit, but it is the people in the show that make it worth watching. In fact, Norman Reedus, one of the franchise’s biggest stars, says that it’s really about the friends we make along the way.

“I think there’s safety in numbers,” Norman Reedus, who starred in both the original The Walking Dead and in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, tells Popverse’s Grant DeArmitt. "I think part of the show is who you are going to pair up with to get over the tragedies of life and who you’re going to fight for, and who do you know that has your back. I would say, look to your friends for help.”

Watching the show and its spinoffs, it’s hard to argue with Reedus’s logic. After all, the zombies are never as big a headache as other survivors are. If anything, The Walking Dead is about community and how friendship can survive anything. Even a horde of flesh-eating zombies can't compete with the petty squabbles and dramatic relationships of ordinary human beings.
