Daredevil's Kingpin has another dream comic book role: DC's Swamp Thing

Vincent D'Onofrio would like to play DC's Swamp Thing because he's "broken" like Marvel's Kingpin

Just like how Nicole Kidman in her AMC ad says that we go to the movie theaters for "magic," we go to watch Vincent D'Onofrio performances to witness a sense of nuance and emotional turmoil. Okay, maybe that isn't entirely the case with his Men in Black performance, but you catch my drift. D'Onofrio was introduced to a new generation of fans through his role as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, forever changing the trajectory of white suits in pop culture.

At Los Angeles Comic Con 2025, Vincent D'Onofrio and other members of the Daredevil: Born Again cast were asked if there was another superhero character that they would love to play. And D'Onofrio reflected on his love of Swamp Thing, and how the nuances of the character ignite the same interests he has as an actor that drew him to Kingpin.

"I've always been attracted to people that are broken. And he is broken. He is not only heartbroken, but his life broke into a million pieces. It's like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. He's not attractive, he lives in a swamp, it's tough! And he's in love. And that's an incredible thing," D'Onofrio began.

"And also the narration. I remember all the words. He was so emotional, it was so touching, I couldn't believe it." D'Onofrio said that he read Swamp Thing when he was in his late 20s, early 30s, and the character has stuck with him ever since.

Wilson Bethel, who plays Bullseye on Daredevil: Born Again, chimed in and said, "If Vincent ever got cast as Swamp Thing, Vincent being Vincent, six months before shooting was supposed to start, he would lodge himself in a swamp somewhere. And when cameras are supposed to roll, the production would be like, 'We gotta find Vincent now, he's fuckin' buried in a swamp somewhere'" to which D'Onofrio cracked up.

As a Justice League Dark enthusiast myself, I would go absolutely feral for the chance to see Vincent D'Onofrio as the Guardian of the Green in a DC Studios project. Your move, James Gunn and Peter Safran!
