Which Our Flag Means Death actor appeared in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's WAP music video

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, it's time for your OFMD guest-shot

Quick question: which star of the first season of Our Flag Means Death also appeared in one of the most iconic music videos of the past decade?

It’s a trick question, if course; as much as we may like to imagine Rhys Darby popping up in Taylor Swift’s 'Anti-Hero,' or Con O’Neill in 'Old Town Road' (spoiler alert: that was five years ago now; we’re all old), the star I’m talking about isn’t a regular member of the cast of the Max pirate comedy. In fact, they’re not even human.

Meet Ned, the leopard from 'Wherever You Go, There You Are,' the final episode of season 1. (Yes, he was real, despite many people wondering if he was just exceptionally good CGI.) In the show, he was Evelyn’s pet and a big part of Stede’s plan to fake his own death and escape back to life on the high seas, and perhaps a little bit of romance with Blackbeard. In real life, he’s a performer who can also boast an appearance in the video for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s undeniable “WAP.”

You can see him around the 1:50 mark in the video below:

Does that look like the kind of cat who’d convince gullible 18th century townsfolk that it could kill a man? Of course not — but that’s the power of acting for you. Ned’s double-duty has already been called out by Samba Schutte, but let’s be real: more people should know about what this hero is capable of — and if it leads to a Megan Thee Stallion cameo in future OFMD episodes, I don’t think anyone would be too upset about that.

Our Flag Means Death season 2 is just around the corner; here’s the Popverse take on its first few episodes.

Graeme McMillan: Popverse Editor Graeme McMillan (he/him) has been writing about comics, culture, and comics culture on the internet for close to two decades at this point, which is terrifying to admit. He completely understands if you have problems understanding his accent.
