He was the man in charge of DC’s movie output for years, shepherding everything from Man of Steel through his abandoned Justice League — and then returning for a final cut of the latter years after the fact. But if Zack Snyder was to return to the cinematic world of capes and cowls today, he’d do things differently according to a new report.
Given that Snyder and DC Studios head honcho James Gunn have a longstanding friendship — the two collaborated on Dawn of the Dead in 2004 — the prospect of returning to DC was raised. Snyder told the Hollywood Reporter that he’d consider doing an adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, but only if it’s “a true representation of the graphic novel.”
The filmmaker would stick with Miller if he were ever approached by Marvel, as it turns out, saying that he’d consider a Daredevil and Elektra movie, especially if it were an adaptation of Miller’s Elektra Lives Again, “but that’s it.”
Primarily, he’s more interested in original material these days, however, with Rebel Moon nearing its debut on Netflix next month, and the prospect of a third movie in the series raised in the piece. When it comes to superhero movies, Snyder says, “We’ve been on the treadmill — it has not evolved. I don’t have the excitement for it that I used to have.”
Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire is set to debut on Netflix December 22, a week after a limited theatrical release.
