We’re just a few months away from Dwayne Johnson’s long-awaited Black Adam movie, but fans of DC’s original lightning bearer can already catch up with the character in the recently-launched Black Adam comic book. Popverse has an exclusive first look at the covers to October’s fifth issue.

Theo Teth-Adam has been many things across a career that started with his debut in 1945’s The Marvel Family #1, including an arch-nemesis, a tragic anti-hero, and a cautionary tale for Billy Batson’s red-and-gold-clad alter-ego – he’s even been a member of the Justice League, and the only one of the team to survive the events leading into current crossover event Dark Crisis – but the new 12-issue series by Christopher Priest and Rafa Sandoval explores the idea that, as DC’s PR puts it, “there is no redemption for Black Adam.”

In practice, that means that despite best intentions, there are some things in Adam’s past – and, perhaps, in his present – that can’t be easily forgiven, never mind forgotten… and some people who aren’t willing to even try.

The official solicitation for October’s issue reads, “THERE IS NO REDEMPTION FOR BLACK ADAM. Theo Teth-Adam faces off against a furious Bruce Wayne as Black Adam confronts threats ranging from a rising democratic movement in Kahndaq to the Akkad, a new pantheon of gods from outer space who create a new herald to represent them on Earth in Sargon the Sorcerer, and Adam becomes inextricably linked to a young protégé who has contracted the same plague that nearly killed Adam.”

Written by Priest, with art by Sandoval, Black Adam #5 will feature a main cover by Irvin Rodriguez, variants from Sandoval and Ariel Colon, a 1:25 variant cover from Mario 'Fox' Foccillo, and a movie variant cover by Josh Swaby, all of which can be seen below.

Black Adam #5 will be released October 18.

This is one of two Black Adam series coming from DC this fall - the other being Black Adam – The Justice Society Files.
