The hit horror comic franchise Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is ending in 2027, and creator Patrick Horvath says its "bittersweet"

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees became a comics phenomenon almost by accident, now it's ending.

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees snuck up on everyone — cartoonist Patrick Horvath included — to go from a meek six-issue comic series to a major franchise in comic publishing. After it grew from a one-off series to a series of books, one-shots, specials, and even a crossover with DC Comics' superhero, Horvath is now deciding to end it all in 2027 with Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: The Summer and the Fall.

“When I initially pitched the first arc, I honestly thought that would be the end of it, but about halfway through writing and drawing that, I had the spark of what would grow into a second and third installment," says Horvath in a statement circulated to The Hollywood Reporter. "It’s bittersweet to be bringing this to a close now, but mostly I’m filled with a lot of gratitude for IDW taking a chance on me and the global comics community for giving me such an insanely warm welcome.”

But in a modern world where people love the fictional idea of serial killers, especially when dressed in gigantic costumes ala Five Nights at Freddy's, you can see how Horvath's vision could be something people would want to see, especially when it's set as a period piece, with the first volume in the '80s, the second in the '90s, and this finale set in the early '00s.

“[The serial killer] Samantha Strong now finds herself having to answer for all of her deeds to a world that has become obsessed with true crime, global terrorism, and the slippery notion of righteous violence," Horvath continues in the statement provided by IDW Publishing. "It might all lead to a major change for her, or this might just be the end of the road.”
