DC K.O. architect Scott Snyder thought he'd get fired for going too far with fall 2025's fightfest event

The Absolute Batman writer got a surprise visit from DC EIC Jim Lee, which he believed would end with a pink slip

One of, if not the, biggest events in recent comics storytelling is DC K.O., an all-out brawl between the heaviest hitters of the DC Comics universe to decide who will become King Omega, a champion with the power to defeat Darkseid himself. With issue one already on shelves, the event promises to be quite the wild ride for fans - and apparently already has been for one of its writers. That writer would be Scott Snyder, who told a crowd at New York Comic Con 2025 that he was certain his writing duties would be, well, KO'd.

The story comes from the DC K.O. – What’s Next? panel at the most recent NYCC. Appearing alongside cowriter Joshua Williamson, who helped pen the DC K.O. scripts for artists Javi Fernandez and Alejandro Sánchez, Snyder told the assembled crowd of DC Comics fans that he thought he'd be fired after finding out that DC's president and EIC Jim Lee was paying a surprise visit to his home.

"DC has just been nothing but supportive," Snyder told the audience, "I keep waiting for the call from [DC publisher] Jim Lee that's like, 'You can't do that.'  He actually came to my house a couple weeks ago, and I wasn't sure what it was about, and I was sure it was [that] I was getting fired and we were not doing KO."

DC K.O. co-writer Williamson jumped in to back Synder up.

"We were going back and forth," said fellow Batman scribe Williamson, "Like, 'Why is Jim driving to your house?' 'What does he want to talk about?' He lives in the middle of nowhere."

"I do!" Snyder exclaimed, "I live off the grid, almost, in the woods. So I'm like, 'Why is he coming here?' And then he showed up, and he said, 'Honestly, we want to say, do more of what you're doing, and we love who we are right now as a company.'"

I get it, Scott. If I got a message from my editor saying they were on the way to my house, I'd for sure think it was because I was getting the Bat-Axe. (Hi Graeme, I know you're reading this.) But I guess Jim Lee just likes to share good news in person.

"I don't shill for DC," concluded Snyder, "I promise I don't come out and say it's amazing when it's not, but it is the best time I've ever had in superhero comics, and I'm grateful and proud to be part of this company right now. We have such good stuff to show you."

DC K.O. #2 comes to comic stores and digital platforms November 26.
