What's next for DC's New Gods? A new series .... that may just be a revival of a recent series we just love.
Writer Ram V, who wrote last year's 12-part New Gods series with artist Evan Cagle, has revealed he's not only writng another New Gods story, but he already wrote it. He describes it as "a second season/arc" from the aforementioned 2025 series, but isn't sure it they'll just pick up with a surprise New Gods #13 (well, no surprise if you're reading this!) or start it with a shining new #1.

"I'm excited for everyone to see the recent New Gods thing I wrote. It's a nice check-in with all of the characters after the events of the previous arc!" V says in a League of Comic Geeks AMA. "I don't have a specific date for you all. I took a break from superheroes to do a few other things, so those are coming along nicely. That said, I worked on a New Gods thing recently and I *think* we know who the artist will be for a second season/arc!"
V also states that it's unclear whether his new arc would continue the numbering of his original volume or if it will restart with a new #1, saying "the DC number-gods will decide." He does, however, offer some brief teases about what the story will entail, responding to a fan who asks whether Orion and Lightray will kiss, following their tension in his first arc.
"Will they? Won't they? The foundational quandary of every good drama. First, we'll need to get Lightray back. Then, you'll have to read to find out."
Alongside namechecking the work of New Gods creator Jack Kirby, a legend in the comic industry, the writer also names the manga that inspired some of his interpretation of the New Gods' abilities, which V elevated to more conceptual heights than their traditional super powers.
"I wanted New Gods powers to feel a bit different to the regular superheroics of it all. Honestly, the beams and super strength / flight - all started feeling a bit generic to me," he explains. "So taking a note out of Kirby's page we thought we'd make the powers big and punchy and visually dramatic too. Of course, having read most of Bleach, The Bankai was also a big influence and on my mind!"
Ram V and New Gods artist Evan Cagle recently reunited for V's creator-owned sci-fi series Deicidium.
