Disney's Sword in the Stone movie is getting a sequel with Madam Mim as its big bad in comics

It's been over six decades since Walt Disney Productions adapted T.H. White's The Sword in the Stone, and now, the studio's returning their magical adventure to the page. Alongside Papercutz, the youth-oriented wing of comic publisher Mad Cave Studios, Disney is unveiling an official graphic novel sequel to the 1963 animated classic, and Popverse has a first look:

Papercutz calls The Sword in the Stone: Arthur's Magical Kingdom "a grand continuation of Disney's beloved film," and has revealed that the graphic novel follow-up will be available for purchase in January of 2026. But that's not all - we've also learned that the story will welcome back infamous Disney baddie Madam Mim to the company's take on Arthurian Legend, likely pretty peeved about the wizards' duel she lost to Merlin over half a century ago.

"This epic journey follows young Arthur," says Papercutz's official synopsis of the graphic novel, "now the rightful ruler of Camelot, as he embarks on a transformative journey guided by the whimsical and wise sorcerer, Merlin. When the powerful and malicious sorceress, Madam Mim, comes back from the great beyond, she brings not only a heart of revenge but new and powerful allies. In this tale, Arthur must grapple with the challenges of ruling a kingdom, while an evil spell threatens to rewrite history and destroy Camelot as we know it. Through Merlin’s guidance, Arthur learns that magic cannot solve all of life’s problems and is reminded of why he was chosen by the sword in the first place."

The 80-page children's graphic novel boasts a creative team of writers Michael Snow and Gabriel Valentin, plus artist Lorenzo Colangeli. Coming in at $9.99 for a paperback (and perhaps kicking off more Sword & the Stone comics, depending on how sales go), The Sword in the Stone: Arthur's Magical Kingdom will be on sale January 27, 2026 - you can pre-order on Simon & Schuster's website.
