You've met Buffy the Vampire Slayer, now prepare for what could be the next big thing: Alex the demon hunter.

Alex is the 15-year-old lead in the comics series East Side Saints, created by the quintet of wrestler/actor AJ Mendez (you might know her as AJ Lee), Lucifer's Aimee Garcia and that show's showrunner Ildy Modrovich, and the Sicko art team of Amilcar Pinna and Amanda Grazini. Together they're working with Ignition Press on a story about a young girl growing up in a family whose family business is demon-hunting in East LA.
"Angels, demons and the chupacabra were a Tuesday in my family. Growing up in a multigenerational, superstitious Latino household, my cousins and I were taught by our grandparents that if we ever saw a demon at the bus stop, we should take off our shoe and beat the bastard with it," says Garcia, who has been writing and producing projects with Mendez for years (and who is also of Puerto Rican descent herself).

"East Side Saints introduces a modern, Latina heroine and her janky, ragtag crew," continues Garcia. "This story is for the underdogs, the scrappy fighters … for anyone battling their own inner demons. But, East Side Saints is really about hope, because if these trainwrecks can survive, anyone can."
"This story is a love letter to the misfits, the troublemakers, and the rule-breakers," Mendez adds, "whose rough edges are the weapons that will save the world."

Mendez, Garcia, and Modrovich are packing now to be at Comic-Con International: San Diego next week, where they'll be enjoying the con like many of us, while also having a signing that's guaranteed to hit capacity. The East Side Saints trio will be having a signing off the show floor over in room 33C on Saturday, July 25 from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Comic-Con is organizing a lottery for 120 tickets to take part in this free event; for details on that, log in to the SDCC website with your Member ID, and allocate credits towards the signing lottery.
And yes, we asked — AJ, Aimee and Ildy will be up for talking a free selfie with those who take part, and also have an exclusive East Side Saints print for you as well.

East Side Saints is set to debut in 2027, and Ignition has already set up a dedicated website to get looped in on it all.
