The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is now promoting the manga, with original animation not from the TV series itself

To celebrate the release of Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 3 in Japan, MAPPA have teased us all with a potential anime adaptation.

Already, 2026 has been a big year for Jujutsu Kaisen fans. Season 3 of the anime aired during the Winter 2026 anime season, and the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga wrapped up its story in April. Now, MAPPA, the anime studio behind the JJK adaptation, has released a trailer to celebrate the finale of the spinoff manga – and it is suitably gorgeous.

What makes this such a wild development is that MAPPA hasn’t actually been involved in the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga to this point. The studio has adapted all three seasons of the anime as well as the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, so they decided to celebrate the release of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3 in Japan with a new trailer for the manga.

It would have been understandable for MAPPA to put together a quick and cheap trailer for the release. After all, there are currently no public plans to animate Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, especially with the main Jujutsu Kaisen anime still ongoing. Since Modulo takes place decades after the main story, it delves deep into spoilers on how Jujutsu Kaisen ends. This makes an anime unlikely to come out until we reach the same point in the anime.

However, that isn’t MAPPA’s style. Instead of a fixed image moving across the screen, the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo trailer is gorgeously animated, with dynamic movement that captures some of the biggest moments from the manga. MAPPA put in more effort into this single trailer than they needed to, and it has us wondering if they’re not publicly pitching to handle the anime adaptation before negotiations even begin.
