The Disney April 2026 layoffs cut so deep at Marvel even the editor of the Daily Bugle got hit (and the comic seemingly canceled!)

Artist Ty Templeton has confirmed that editor Devin Lewis was one of the people laid off at Marvel Comics recently, which has likely put an end to this fun, whimsical feature.

When the sizable Disney April 2026 layoffs that have hit Marvel, both on the comics and studio sides, were announced, everyone knew that there would be some big consequences for the company. With the departure of editor Devin Lewis from Marvel Comics, it appears that we’ve seen the end of one of the most fun projects the company had commissioned over the past few years.

The Daily Bugle strips that Marvel has published over the years weren’t exactly hard-hitting takes on their characters like Spider-Man or The Avengers. They were parodies of some of the most iconic newspaper comic strips ever created. They put Spider-Man into the role of Charlie Brown as he battled with the kite-eating tree, or Hawkeye as Archie trying to make some easy money to take Scarlet Witch out for drinks. They’re fun and whimsical; a way to celebrate the Sunday funny papers and poke a little fun at Marvel Comics at the same time.

And now, they’re sadly ended. At least for now. Ty Templeton, the writer and artist behind many of the Daily Bugle comic strips, posted that he believed the feature was effectively cancelled due to the loss of the editor who commissioned them.

“Marvel Editor Devin Lewis requested the lion’s share of the Daily Bugle strips for Marvel projects, and is a recent victim of Disney/Marvel’s across-the-board layoffs. So the series is cancelled as of now. Thanks Devin! It was grand fun! Now a couple of re-run favorites.”

While the loss of the Daily Bugle strips feature isn’t necessarily going to be the biggest outcome for the Marvel layoffs, Ty does confirm that Punisher and Daredevil editor Devin Lewis is one of the individuals caught up in the recent layoffs. And we’re guessing that he won’t be the last name added to the pile of departures by the time this all shakes out.
