Earlier this month, Disney announced that it had laid off roughly 1,000 employees across multiple departments, from Marvel Studios to editors and executives at Marvel Comics. For Marvel in particular, about 7-8% of the workforce was laid off. And now, audio producer and host of official podcasts like Marvel's Pull List, Jasmine Estrada, has revealed that she was laid off by the company last week after six and a half years at the company.
On her social media, Estrada posted, "I got to help shape shows like The History of Marvel Comics, where I sat down with nearly every creator who’s ever worked on Black Panther, and tell amazing stories across the comics landscape over on Declassified including going on a manhunt during a global pandemic to just to give Mexican artist Jose Luis Duran his flowers for the stories he told in Mexico where Gwen Stacy lived past [Amazing Spider-Man] #121. I even got to nerd out with celebrities about comics alongside Grammy award-winning artist [Method Man] on Marvel/Method."
In addition, Estrada noted that it was at Marvel that she "stepped into the hosting chair for the first time," as the host of Marvel's Pull List podcast, and she remains "beyond grateful" for her experiences. Estrada's role as audio producer brought her in conversation with "comics creators to movie stars, to show runners to vfx editors, to comics editors to artists to writers," and more.
If you've listened to a Marvel podcast in the past six and a half years, there is a good chance you listened to a show that Estrada hosted or produced. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Marvel's podcasting group.
