The safest place in the Walking Dead universe is Greenland... at least for Clementine author Tillie Walden

Tillie Walden, the writer-artist behind the Clementine Walking Dead graphic novels, explains why she set Clementine Book 3 in Greenland

I think at this point, a lot of us are familiar with at least one globe-trotting zombie story. Take, for example, the Resident Evil video games and movies. Then there's Joel and Ellie walking from Boston to the West Coast in The Last of Us. You get where I'm going with this.

But what about some of the most remote places on Earth? How often do we get to see a zombie story set in the Arctic? This line of thinking is what led Tillie Walden, the writer-artist behind the Clementine Walking Dead graphic novel series, to set Clementine Book 3 in one incredibly isolated place on the globe.

In explaining her decision to base the events of Clementine Book 3 in Greenland, Walden told us, "Every location, for each book, was planned spur of the moment. After Vermont, I was just like, ‘How about Canada?’ And then after Canada, I was like, ‘How about Greenland?’ It was like, ‘Why not? Let's just keep going north.’ And the more I looked into it, the more I learned about Greenland, the more I was like, ‘Oh, I actually think that Greenland would do very well in a zombie apocalypse.’ It's a place that has been inhabited by people who are survivors for a very long time."

Greenlandic Inuit people have lived in Greenland for centuries. So it's fair to say that they know how to thrive in Greenland's harsh environments. Since Greenland isn't as populous as other areas of the world, that means that there is a significantly smaller pool for walkers to spawn out of. It's a win-win, if you ask me.
