Why Storm is now officially “Earth’s Mightiest Mutant” for Marvel, according to her writer Murewa Ayodele

Storm's current writer, Murewa Ayodele, says that Ororo's status as Marvel's Mightiest Mutant is about more than just her powers. Which, we should also clarify, are pretty damn mighty

Who is the most powerful X-Men? Oof, don't ask us - we don't have the time or patience with rage mail to feel comfortable offering an answer. There is one writer, though, who it seems will let you know, and he's got a Marvel-approved subtitle to back him up. We're talking about Murewa Ayodele, scribe behind the appropriately named Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant.

Ayodele recently sat down with the good folks at Adventures in Poor Taste to explain why his recent comic (which he co-creates with artist Federica Mancin) bears such a bold title, especially one that comes courtesy of Marvel's own editorial team. Oh yeah, it was Marvel's own idea to give Ororo that moniker.

"The Earth’s Mightiest Mutant subtitle was an editorial choice," Ayodele revealed, "But I find it extremely fitting, because as we move into this new chapter of the Eternal Storm saga, Storm’s sense of responsibility over the Earth will be ever-present."

To coin a phrase from another popular do-gooder at the House of Ideas, not only is Storm's "Mightiest" status meant to be about her great power, but her great responsibility as well.

"In other words," Ayodele continued, "She is Earth’s mightiest mutant because she is the mutant who feels the most responsible for the Earth and will sacrifice all it takes to keep her safe. Her awesome powers just happen to be the cherry on top of making the title even more suiting."

That's an incredible take, Murewa, though we're just letting you know - we would've accepted "she can make tornadoes kiss" as solid reasoning as well.

Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant is available wherever you get your comics now.
