Local Comic Shop Day is a little over a month away, and Skybound is preparing the mark the occasion with two special limited edition covers to one of the most anticipated launches of the year — and this is one of those occasions where fans are going to want to try to pick up both covers if at all possible.

As part of Local Comic Shop Day — an annual event intended to celebrate comic book stores across the nation, which this year falls on Wednesday, November 22 — a number of publishers offer exclusive releases intended to bring more customers into their shops on that day. One of those publishers this year is Image Comics’ Skybound, which will be offering two connecting variant covers for Universal Monsters: Dracula #1 and 2 by Killadelphia artist Jason Shawn Alexander… a man who’s no stranger to vampires.

Alexander has sunk his teeth into the gig (pun most definitely intended) with a painting of Dracula biting one of his victims, split across the two covers — with Dracula himself on the cover to #1, and the victim caught in mid-scream on the cover to #2.

The series launches October 25, with the creative team from Image’s The Department of Truth at the helm: James Tynion IV writing, and Martin Simmonds illustrating. The four-issue series sees Skybound partner with Universal Products & Experiences to bring the character back to life — or undeath, perhaps. The official description from Skybound reads as follows:

“When Dr. John Seward admits a strange new patient into his asylum, the madman tells stories of a demon who has taken residence next door. But as Dr. Seward attempts to apply logic to the impossible...his surrogate daughter Lucy begins to fall under the spell of the twisted Count Dracula!”

The Local Comic Shop Day covers by Alexander will only be available during Local Comic Shop Day; find out more details about the event, including a list of participating stores, at the Local Comic Shop Day website, and whet your appetite (for blood!) by looking at the covers below.

In addition to Killadelphia, Jason Shawn Alexander also worked with writer Rodney Barnes on A Blacula graphic novel earlier this year.
