There are a few different kinds of people who have been keeping the Baldur’s Gate 3 fandom alive in the years since its initial release. There are the modders, the Honor Mode fanatics, and, of course, the folks who want to bang all the characters (sometimes to an unhealthy degree). The marketing team at Larian Studios knew exactly what they were doing when they released the infamous Bear Scene as part of the promotion for the game, but it apparently even caught the actor playing Halsin off guard.

For those of you who don’t know, let us remind you. If you choose to romance Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a scene where you can become one with Nature. We don’t mean that just because Halsin is a druid and therefore has a connection with nature; we mean that because he turns into a bear right before you bang. The clip was doing the rounds even before the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3, and it immediately got everyone talking. Why? Because it is a scene in a mainstream video game where you have sex with a dude who changes into a bear. Obviously.

Recently, Dave Jones, who provided both Halsin’s voice and his motion capture for Baldur’s Gate 3, appeared on a podcast where he explained his first reaction to finding out about the bear scene. “When I first found out about The Bear Scene, I was on a train down to London to one of the sessions. We get the scripts a couple of days beforehand, and you can look through. I just burst out laughing. It was more the fact that, ‘Oh, we’re going there. We’re going there.’”

While my heart will always belong to Karlach as a romance option in Baldur’s Gate 3, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to do a Halsin romance playthrough at some point. Just so I can experience tickling the bear for myself.
