The Daggerheart romantasy campaign With Love and Magic is coming “fast” as Critical Role tests a digital-first release strategy
After Critical Role's Matt Mercer announced it earlier this year, we've been waiting on details regarding Daggerheart's With Love and Magic campaign. And at PAX unplugged 2025, we got to ask for details from the developers

You may recall Popverse's reporting on a romantasy-inspired campaign coming to Daggerheart, the TTRPG published by Critical Role. So far, we know the name of the adventure - With Love and Magic - and we know that it's at least partially inspired by Tusk Love, the in-universe romantasy novel written under the Critical Role banner. Other than that, though, details are scarce - so when I got the chance to talk with some of the key figures behind Daggerheart, I had to ask if there were any updates.
And not only did I get one, but it was pretty exciting as well.
Backing up here: the folks behind Daggerheart I'm talking about specifically are producer Elise Rezendes and designers Spenser Starke and Rowan Hall. After all three had taken the stage to announce a very exciting 2026 for the game (new GM screens, anyone?), I had the opportunity to ask for even more details. And of course, I was gonna ask about the sexy campaign.
"The success of Daggerheart's launch," began Rezendes, "Was like a miracle landing. It's like in a gymnastics move - where you stick the landing, and there's no little hop at the end. That happens once out of every hundred volts, right? [...] We had that kind of moment with Daggerheart's launch, and the propulsion from there was that we immediately had an audience that wants all of these different things."
To contend with that high demand, says the game's producer, the team is working on "digital first and digital only" material, in order to get new campaigns into the hands of ravenous players faster. With Love and Magic is their test run of that process.
"Next year is going to be a foray into not relying on the manufacturing pipeline of physical products," rezendes continued excitedly, "Making sure that we can get like small little bite-sized injections into the community that land in retail and land on our store online, so that you can just have this little digital thing and there's no waiting six months for something to be manufactured and ship across the ocean [...] So with Love and Magic, it's going to be one of those that's digital, either digital first or digital only, depending on how the community reacts to that kind of content."
So to recap - not only is With Love and Magic still happening, but it's happening fast, and if its's successful, more campaigns like it might be published in a similar way. And hell, it's not even alone in that regard.
"We're going to be doing similar experiments and forays with adventure content," concludes Rezendes, "And all of that just gets things into people's hands way faster."
If it means more sexy orc content delivered directly into our inboxes, Elise, you have our support.
