All eight episodes of Dispatch season one are out and ready for you to play. If you’ve gotten to the end and seen the epic battle that awaits Mecha Man and the Z-Team, you’ll know that what you choose to do earlier in the game has a direct impact on which of the many Dispatch endings you get. If you’re curious why you got the ending you did, here is every Dispatch ending explained to help you out.

We’re going to discuss some serious spoilers for Dispatch Season 1, so be warned.

What happens in the Dispatch ending?

After fending off the Red Ring’s attack on Los Angeles, the Z-Team has its final, epic fight against Shroud. During that fight, Blond Blazer and Robert Robertson, now in his revamped Mecha Man suit, break off to confront the member of the Z-Team that you cut earlier in the game. After either Coop or Sonar is taken care of, they return to fight against Shroud. Even with the full might of the SDN’s best villains-turned-heroes against him, Shroud is still able to hold his own.

Blond Blazer gives her amulet of power to Chase, bringing him out of his coma and allowing him to use his powers again, which turns the tide against Shroud. However, he has one more trick up his sleeve. He kidnaps Beef, Robert’s beloved dog, and takes him to the roof of the SDN, demanding that Mecha Man come up and exchange the Astral Pulse for the dog. He reveals that Invisigal has been working for him this whole time, and she disappears from view when the rest of the heroes are taken captive.

This is where things begin to branch a bit, depending on how players have chosen to play Robert.

Should you give Shroud the Astral Pulse?

One of the first choices in the Dispatch ending is whether you should give Shroud the Astral Pulse or give him a fake one. There is even the option to give him both the fake and the real one to confuse him. If you give him the fake Astral Pulse, Shroud will immediately spot it is fake and throw it away, forcing you to give him the real one.

If you give Shroud both Astral Pulses, he will get angry and discard one, but it will be the real one, and he’ll end up putting the fake Astral Pulse in his head to enhance his powers, making him easy to defeat once it backfires on him.

If you give Shroud the real Astral Pulse (willingly or unwillingly), he will have a moment of gloating to his minions below. He’ll then turn his gun on Robert. This is where things branch a bit, depending on your previous choices.

How to get Invisigal to become a hero in the Dispatch ending

Staring down the barrel of his father’s gun, Robert has little chance of beating Shroud. Fortunately, he isn’t up there on his own. Visi snuck up while invisible. What she does to save Robert depends on the choices the player made earlier in the game.

If you’ve managed to get Robert to be a good mentor to Invisigal, she will save his life by throwing herself in front of the bullet, slowing it down enough that Robert is saved. This results in Visi becoming a true hero and the two sharing a moment as she is taken away in the ambulance.

If you’ve not managed to turn Visi from a life of villainy, she will instead stab Shroud in the neck while he is busy monologuing, saving Robert but also robbing him of the chance to either get revenge or justice for his father. Visi is not present for the rest of the ending because she has become a full villain.

Killing or sparing Shroud in Dispatch

The next major choice that Robert has is whether he will kill or spare Shroud. What you choose will influence the title you get at the end of Dispatch and how people view Mecha Man afterward.

  • Killing Shroud will steer Robert toward the Anti-Hero title in the closing credits.
  • Sparing Shroud will steer Robert toward the True Hero title in the closing credits.

How to get the Dispatch True Hero ending

Robert is faced with many decisions throughout Dispatch, and most of them will have an impact on how both he and his team view him. If Robert does heroic things, like not pushing Toxic off his balcony at the start of the game or telling Blond Blazer about her dress malfunction, then it will edge him toward being viewed as a hero.

Folks on Reddit have done a deep dive into the Dispatch game files and found the different counters that the game uses to determine which of the three endings players get. Doing good things or covering for your teammates adds to your Hero counter. Being crass or aggressive will add to your Antihero counter.

Basically, if you want to be viewed as a hero, you need to do heroic things.

The opposite is true, of course. If you say and do things that are more aggressive or mean, you’ll edge Robert toward the Antihero ending. Importantly, choosing to kill Shroud will count for five Antihero points, while choosing to spare him will result in 5 Hero points. Considering that the threshold for getting a True Hero or Antihero ending is 20 points in either counter, this is a huge jump.

How to get the Dispatch Everyman ending

So if you get 20 Hero points, you get the True Hero ending. If you get 20 Antihero points, you get the Antihero ending. However, it is possible to get neither counter up to 20, depending on what you choose. If that happens, you’ll get the Dispatch Everyman ending, which basically means that Robert does what he thinks is best at the moment, without worrying about the moral implications.

Is there a Dispatch canon ending?

One of the goals that the Dispatch developers had going into this game was to make it so there wasn’t a right or wrong way to play the game. Your choices influence the outcome, making a gameplay experience that is fairly unique to you. That means that there isn’t really a canon Dispatch ending – just go with what feels right for you.

What are the Dispatch romance options?

The final decision that influences your ending in Dispatch is who you choose to romance in the game. There are two characters who can be romanced: Blond Blazer and Invisigal. Which one you romance will depend on your choices in the game. If you kiss Blond Blazer at the start of the game or you choose to join her on a date in Episode 4, you’ll kiss her at the end of the game. If you choose to kiss Invisigal in the locker room scene or go to the movies with her, you’ll kiss her at the end of the game.

However, there are two other options. You can, of course, choose to keep things completely platonic with both Blond Blazer and Invisigal, which will mean you don’t romance anyone.

Alternatively, you can attempt to romance both women, which will mean that Shroud will call you out for trying to be a player in his final monologue.

All of these options are valid; as we said above, there isn’t a right or wrong way to play Dispatch.
