The spice, as they say, must flow. With the Dune series quickly becoming one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, it was only a matter of time before it branched out into the realm of video games. Dune: Awakening has its release date coming up soon, putting players into an alternate timeline to the books and opening up some new story opportunities as they compete for resources in the multiplayer survival game.

At the beginning of Dune: Awakening, players create their own character with a unique background and mentor, which helps them choose their starting abilities. From there, they’ll have to explore Arakis in a world where Paul Atreides was never born and a civil war has erupted on the planet. Dune: Awakening will get a general release on June 10, 2025, though fans who purchase the Deluxe Edition can play the game starting on June 5, 2025.

The world of Arakis is just as unforgiving and hostile in Dune: Awakening as you’d expect. Players must manage their thirst level and can suffer from heat stroke if they explore during the day. They’ll need to search for resources and equipment to upgrade their gear and potentially upgrade their settlement. Doing so will require them to pay a tax to the Emperor, so there are advantages to keeping a low profile. Oh, and there is also the chance of using spice to unlock new abilities at the risk of getting addicted. Just like in the books!

Dune: Awakening is out on June 10, 2025 for most players, while those who purchase the Deluxe Edition can start playing on June 5, 2025. It is scheduled for a release on PC, though the developers have said that they will release versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in the future.
