Duolingo is threatening "unimaginable punishment" if you don't complete their Genshin Impact crossover event

Please, Duo. We're sorry we broke our streak.

One thing we all love is a good crossover. Just this week, we reported on the unexpected crossover between Silent Mobius and The Avengers, but that feels positively mundane compared to the latest news about Genshin Impact and Duolingo. That’s right; Genshin Impact, the popular and highly addictive gacha game, and Duolingo, that app that keeps guilting you into logging in to learn Spanish (Latin America), are teaming up to urge you to keep your streak alive in both apps.

From now until December 27, fans who log into Duolingo and complete a 3-day streak will get a pair of rewards in Genshin Impact. These include:

  • A reward bundle for Genshin Impact that includes a “Diligent Study” avatar, a themed namecard called “Celebration: Dream Reader,” and a unique Sumeru-style dish called “Spiced Fried Chicken”
  • A statue of Paimon and Duo

We’re sure there is a sizable crossover between Genshin Impact players and Duolingo learners. And we know that Duolingo has been particularly aggressive in the past few years to reach new and unsuspecting users on convention floors around the world. So, it shouldn’t surprise us to see this kind of collaboration between Genshin Impact and Duolingo. And yet, we find ourselves surprised all the same. Maybe it is seeing an imperious look of Duo the Owl cosplaying as a Genshin Impact character. Maybe it is the fact that Paimon is threatened with “unimaginable punishment” if they don’t complete the 3-day streak at the start of the trailer. Either way, this crossover caught us off guard.

You, too, can avoid an unimaginable punishment by completing a 3-day streak in Duolingo between now and December 27, 2025. And it will snag you a couple of rewards in Genshin Impact along the way.
