Something I am eternally grateful for is the fact that high school does not last forever. If you're the leads in a hit comedy franchise about two law officers who infiltrate one, though, I can see how you might wish it lasted a bit longer than it actually does. That wish seems to have been granted for the cast and crew behind the 21 Jump Street movies, as Sony has officially announced the next film in the story.

And they're even leaning into the fact that it's getting a little old.

Let's take a step back. We heard about the new film, 24 Jump Street, via the folks at Variety, who were themselves reporting on an image producer Neal H. Moritz posted to his Instagram. The very simple pic is of a new script bearing the next film's title, along franchise stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's names under the writing credit. As a nod to the gap between now and the last movie, the tagline reads:

"It took so long to make we had to skip one."

All jokes about the aging of it all aside, there is a pretty decent recent that 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street aren't being followed by the next logical title. As Variety points out, the end of 22 Jump Street saw protagonist Jenko (Tatum) and Schmidt (Hill) going undercover in what could've very well served as the project codenamed 23 Jump Street, thus making 24 the next place they'd actually go.

For my part, I can't wait to see Jenko & Schmidt flip the script and go undercover at a senior living home, maybe donning some prosthetics to appear older than they are. Ah well, I guess 69 Jump Street might end up juts being a pipe dream.

24 Jump Street is, as of this writing, without a release date.
