Magic: The Gathering announces new card bans, and it's officially low tide again

Say goodbye to cards like Vivi Ornitier and High Tide, because Magic: The Gathering has a new slate of card bans in effect

All High Tides must come to an end, even in Magic: The Gathering. Earlier this year, Magic: The Gathering fans rejoiced when the tried and true card popular within the Pauper format, High Tide, was unbanned. But as the poet Robert Frost once wrote, nothing gold can stay.

Today, Magic: The Gathering announced a new slew of upcoming card bans. And I'm sad to report to Pauper players everywhere that the ebb and flow powers that at Wizards of the Coast have once again struck and outlawed High Tide. Take a look at the full list of card bans below:

  • Screaming Nemesis is banned.
  • Proft's Eidetic Memory is banned.

So you might be wondering, when do these card bans go into effect? Today, November 10, 2025. The next set of card bans will be announced on February 9, 2026, so this is the last ban of 2025.

If you're looking for a more detailed explanation on why these specific cards have been banned, you can tune into the live stream tomorrow, November 11 at 10 AM PST on Magic: The Gathering's Twitch channel.
