Now you can own Final Fantasy VII’s Buster Sword in a new space-saving format: a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair card
Cloud Strife's Buster Sword is one of the most iconic weapons in Final Fantasy, and it's now been immortalized in a new Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair set

Everyone's got their favorite Final Fantasy game, and everyone's got their favorite Final Fantasy weapon. For many of us, that would be Cloud Strife's enormous Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII: A huge slab of metal not unlike that of the Dragonslayer from Kentaro Miura's Berserk manga, the Buster Sword has been featured heavily in some of the most recognizable images from Final Fantasy VII. Who could forget that image of Cloud standing with the Buster Sword on his back as he gazes up at the looming Shinra Building? (And if you did forget it, look at the image at the top of this story.)
For anyone who's ever wanted to own a Buster Sword in real life (ahem, me) but is running low on space for nerd objects, I've got good news. Wizards of the Coast is releasing a special Secret Lair set for its Final Fantasy crossover called Secret Lair x Final Fantasy: Weapons, as reported by ICV2. Existing Magic: the Gathering cards like Staff of the Storyteller, Blade of Selves, Umezawa's Jitte, Colossus Hammer, and Sword of Truth and Justice have been reimagined as various weapons from Final Fantasy games.

The set includes Yuna's Sending Staff from Final Fantasy X, Clive's Invictus Blade from Final Fantasy XVI (it's so great to see Clive Rosfield getting so much love in this crossover), Cloud's Buster Sword from Final Fantasy VII, Gaia's Dark Hammer from Final Fantasy XIV, and Tidus's Brotherhood Sword from Final Fantasy X. Now, even you can own the Buster Sword in a polite and compact form: a Magic: The Gathering card.
Even better, the set is affordable, compared to the actual cost of a Buster Sword. The standard edition of the Final Fantasy: Weapons Secret Lair will cost $29.99, while the Rainbow Foil set will set you back $39.99. If you ask me, that's a small price to pay for the chance to hold Clive Rosfield in borderless card form in your hands until one of you disintegrates first.
Preorders for the Secret Lair sets will commence on June 9, 2025.
