Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders already halted due to Trump Tariffs

On April 2, the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct announced that the hotly-anticipated gaming console would be available for pre-order April 9. On April 4, not even a full 48 hours after the reveal, Nintendo has officially stated that the pre-orders will no longer be open on that date. The drastic change comes as a result of the Trump Administration's sweeping tariffs on countries who produce the consoles for the gaming company.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S.," reads Nintendo's official statement, as reported by Kotaku, "will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date."
Nintendo does clarify, however, that the Switch 2's release date, June 5, has not changed.
This disheartening news comes on the heels of another unfortunate result of the tariffs, that is, the almost certain spike in the Switch 2's price. As Popverse has previously reported, gamers should also expect to see rising prices of the games themselves. These include the open-world Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong Bananza, another two highlights of the recent Nintendo Direct that have been dampened by the Trump Administration's announcement.
As of this writing, Nintendo has not announced a new Switch 2 pre-order date. Popverse will continue following this story as it develops.
