The Fury of Firestorm is a fire that is hard to put out. In a good way.

DC has announced that it's adding six more issues to the Fury of Firestorm limited series by Jeff Lemire and Rafael de Latorre. It's the reimagining of Ronnie, Firehawk, and more, but the story behind the story is fascinating.

The Fury of Firestorm was announced in January 2026 as a six-issue series to debut in April 2026 as part of DC's 'Next Level' group of titles. Weeks ahead of the release, strong pre-orders from comic stores and internal happiness with what the creative team was doing led the publisher to quietly stretch it from six to eight issues. A few days after the first issue hit shelves, it sold out and went for a rush second printing, which led DC to make Firestorm a nine-issue series.

Sources familiar with the situation tell Popverse that the decision to expand The Fury of Firestorm from a nine-issue series into a 15-issue epic was a very recent development, and only after Lemire turned in the script for the ninth issue back in July, as an ending. It was such a last-minute decision that 18 days ago DC revealed details for Fury of Firestorm #8 as the "penultimate" issue.

The idea of a limited series growing at DC based on fan interest isn't new. G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara's Poison Ivy now must hold some kind of record as the longest-running limited series, launching in 2022 as a tight mini and then being expanded and expanded until it's now targeting a 50th issue this November. Other DC miniseries have expanded, such as Absolute Green Arrow.

For Firestorm, this comes while Lemire also plans to introduce the absolute version of Firestorm in the Absolute Flash series.

The Fury of Firestorm #6 (of 15) debuted this week, with the next issue scheduled for October 28. A collection of the first six issues doesn't come out until March 2027.
