The upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem is going deep into the roots of the franchise: specifically, 2003's Outbreak
While we all wanted to see Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil: Requiem, Grace Ashcroft ties back into the franchise’s roots

Resident Evil: Requiem will double as both the ninth entry in the beloved Capcom horror franchise and the 30th anniversary of the entire series as a whole (maybe I should start going around saying “I am Resident Evil years old”). And while there are a myriad of protagonists we’ve bonded with during our playthroughs over the years, we won’t be led through the story of Requiem by a familiar face. Rather, we’ll be going through it all with a new character altogether: a young woman named Grace Ashcroft.
Who is Grace Ashcroft you might ask? She’s an FBI agent, but don’t expect her to be a grizzled warrior like Resident Evil 4’s Leon S. Kennedy. At PAX West 2025’s Capcom panel, Grace was described as such: “She knows how to use a gun, but she’s not a battle-hardened soldier by any means.” Grace is the daughter of Resident Evil: Outbreak character, Alyssa Ashcroft. Outbreak was a co-op game that came out all the way back in 2004 in North America, so it sounds like Requiem will tie together multiple eras of the Resident Evil franchise through the familial ties between Grace and Alyssa.

Alyssa Ashcroft was an investigative journalist who survived the incident in Raccoon City that we saw in Resident Evil 2 and 3. She died 8 years before the events of Requiem, and her death weighs heavily on her daughter, Grace. The PAX West panel also emphasized that Grace has a “fearful personality,” which honestly, given the type of shit that is running around inside the Resident Evil world, who among us wouldn’t be a bit scared?
It would be sweet if Requiem’s Grace Ashcroft had similarities with Silence of the Lambs’s Clarice Starling, with them being female FBI agents investigating something horrific. But who am I to speculate.
Resident Evil: Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026
