Two years after all of us partied like it was 2005 again during the release of Resident Evil 4's remake, our prayers for Leon Kennedy to appear in Resident Evil: Requiem have been answered by Capcom. At the 2025 Game Awards, Capcom unveiled new footage from the upcoming survival horror game, showcasing a grizzled and wrinkled Leon Kennedy. He may be an FBI Agent now, but he's still rocking that emo haircut.
Up until now, we've known that Resident Evil: Requiem - the ninth mainline game in the Resident Evil franchise - was going to be led by a new character named Grace Ashcroft. However, those of us who have spent countless hours in the trenches with Leon playing Resident Evil 2, 4, and yes, even 6, were holding out hope that our lovably awkward fave would appear somewhere in the game. Take a look at Leon in all of his edgy glory below.
Sure, this man has literally fought monsters from beyond all comprehension, but his hairline hasn't backed down. What new skills is Leon bringing with him this time? Oh, nothing much, only that he can WIELD CHAINSAWS now. It seems like Leon isn't going to be trapped in a facility fighting monsters this time; the monsters are going to be trapped in a facility with him.
On a separate note, it's refreshing to see a bit of action-oriented third-person gameplay in Resident Evil again. Obviously, Resident Evil VII and Village were masterpieces, but I'm going to be vulnerable for a second and admit that the first-person perspective of those games made everything so much scarier that it almost wasn't fun to play. Almost.
Resident Evil: Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026.
