EA has big plans for The Sims, but a sequel to The Sims 4 isn't part of them
Soon you'll be able to play The Sims with people all over the world, but it won't be as part of The Sims 5

One of the surest ways EA has to make money is to put out a new expansion pack or content pack for The Sims, so it isn’t a surprise that the iconic game series is at the heart of EA’s plans for the future. However, fans shouldn’t be expecting The Sims 5 anytime soon, as those plans apparently don’t include a direct sequel.
This comes from a recent interview with EA Entertainment president, Laura Miele, who explained that there currently aren’t any plans for The Sims 5, even though The Sims “represents one of the biggest growth opportunities for Electronic Arts.” Instead, they are going to be focused on the upcoming multiplayer feature for The Sims, with her team “hard at work and feverishly developing what this [multiplayer] platform is going to be.”
Giving fans a multiplayer offering might seem like a strange move for the company, but Miele believes this is the best option for The Sims fans. “What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created, give up all of the content that you’ve purchased over the years. We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on The Sims 4, and so resetting that is not player friend and not a good idea for our community.”
Of course, the multiplayer build isn’t the only thing that EA is developing for The Sims – they are also working with Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie’s production company for a film version of the game, though there is currently no release date for that movie.
