Marvel Comics has been teasing a major crossover event in the street-level superhero titles for months, and we now know what's going on. 'Gang War' begins this fall, and was detailed at the Marvel's Next Big Thing panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2023.

"We wanted to go back there and do a ground-level Spider-Man story, where Spider-Man gets his hands dirty," says Amazing Spider-Man writer Zeb Wells, who is taking point on this event.

For decades, Marvel Comics' New York City has been plagued by gangs. Even with Spider-Man, the Punisher, and more they persist. Heck, even when Luke Cage became mayor, they found a way. But when one of the gang leaders, Tombstone, is killed and fingers begin to be pointed, all the gangs of New York erupt in a battle - with NYC and everyone in it caught in the crossfire.

"The city gets set on fire," says editor Nick Lowe.

In 'Gang War,' the two Spider-Men (Peter and Miles) and other NYC-area heroes work together to try to contain the situation, and save everyone along the way.

Although 'Gang War' doesn't formally begin until December's Amazing Spider-Man #39, the seeds of it begin to grow in November's opening salvo one-shot Amazing Spider-Man Gang War: First Strike #1.

As part of the event, several heroes are getting their own solo series including Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Shang-Chi (in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu), and Elektra (in Daredevil).
