Spider-Woman stars in a new solo series from Marvel

Announced at San Diego Comic Con 2023's Next Big Thing panel from Marvel, Spider-Woman #1 is by Steve Foxe and Carola Borelli, with covers by Leinil Francis Yu

Amidst a movie full of standouts, Jessica Drew was a standout of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Now the character, voiced by Issa Rae in her cinematic form, is going on a new adventure on the comic page, with Spider-Woman #1, the first issue in a new limited series, coming out from Marvel Comics.

Announced at Mavel's Next Big Thing panel at San Diego Comic Con 2023, Spider-Woman's latest title will be written by Steve Foxe, drawn by Carola Borelli, and feature covers by Leinil Francis Yu. This comic marks the return of Jessica in her own solo series, the most recent of which wrapped in March of 2022. That run was by writer Karla Pacheco and artist Pere Perez.

Here's Marvel's official plot synopsis for the new book.

"The Web of Destiny restored Spider-Woman’s life, but even CAPTAIN MARVEL and MADAME WEB can tell something’s changed. Now SPIDER-MAN wants to recruit her for a new team because VIPER has engineered a deadly union between HYDRA and DIAMONDBACK that’s about to tear the city apart, bringing forth a new foe powerful enough to destroy the city while burning Spider-Woman’s world to the ground. DON’T MISS OUT on this action-packed premiere that features CAPTAIN MARVEL, SPIDER-MAN, VIPER and DIAMONDBACK…and introduces a terrifying new force of evil in SPIDER-WOMAN’s world!

Along with describing the threats Spider-Woman will face, Marvel revealed that the titular comic will be a tie-in to the Amazing Spider-Man event 'Gang War'.

Spider-Woman #1 (of 4) swings onto shelves in comic stores across the US in November 2023. Until then, keep an eye on Popverse for all the news on the web.

It's a lazy joke, I know.

We assume (or hope, at least), that Jessica Drew will return to theaters for the next Spider-Verse cinematic assembly. Here's all we know about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse so far.
