Invincible's Omni-Man joins Mortal Kombat 1 in a perfect crossover

As teased this summer with a Kombat Pack roster reveal, Mortal Kombat 1 is welcoming Invincible's Omni-Man next month, and we think it's a perfect crossover.

The first look trailer arrived during last weekend's New York Comic Con 2023, showing us how Omni-Man (also voiced by J.K. Simmons in the game) looks outside of the animated realm. So far, we'd say he seems to be a fantastic addition to the gruesome video game's already packed roster of rebooted legacy characters. Fans can spot many callbacks to Robert Kirkman's comic book and Prime Video's show with his special moves and gory fatalities; NetherRealm has always excelled at nailing the most iconic details, moves, and gestures of all the big IP characters that have joined Mortal Kombat over the years, and they seem to be taking things to next level with MK1's collaborations.

Invincible's main character, Mark Grayson, would've been a fantastic addition too, but given that Mortal Kombat's unwritten rule when it comes to guest characters is finding the most bloodthirsty (and iconic) legends from movies and shows, Omni-Man certainly makes more sense as the final pick. After all, the entire plot of season 1 of the show revolves around shining light on the bloody truth about Omni-Man and his real mission on planet Earth. He's also obsessed with finding "a worthy challenge" and expanding the Viltrum Empire, so even more reasons to masterfully create a what-if scenario within the Mortal Kombat universe.

By the way, Omni-Man isn't the only comic book character invited to the murderous party. MK1's first Kombat Pack will also include The Boys' villain Homelander and DC killer-turned-antihero Peacemaker, both probably played by their live-action actors. Anyone familiar with these character's backgrounds and roles in their respective stories knows they're perfect guest picks too. We can't wait to see how they make the transition to the long-running fighting game franchise.
