It is always interesting to see what has suddenly become popular on Netflix. While there are plenty of scary movies rising in the charts ahead of Halloween, we’ve also seen some mostly-forgotten comedies and action films get renewed interest thanks to the streaming platform. Lately, these movies have been terrible, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron-led Long Shot listed as the most streamed film on Netflix.

Rogen’s trademark humor, filled with drug references and sex jokes, is still here as he plays an outspoken journalist who reconnects with his childhood crush. That crush, played by Theron, is his former babysitter who happens to be the overworked Secretary of State who has just launched her presidential bid.

It’s a bizarre pairing, but the best romantic comedies usually have odd couples at their heart. Rogen and Theron have surprisingly convincing chemistry together. Most critics at the time thought the film was one of the best comedies of 2019 and praised the cast, which includes Andy Serkis, Bob Odenkirk, Alexander Skarsgard, and Lisa Kudrow, as well as the thinly-veiled jabs at public figures like Hillary Clinton, Rupert Murdoch, and Donald Trump. Several critics called it the best work of Rogen’s career up to that point.

You’re probably wondering why you haven’t heard of this charming romantic comedy before. It had the grave misfortune of premiering one week after Avengers: Endgame hit theaters and became the highest-grossing film of all time. At least Netflix is giving us all a chance to reconnect with this charming gem now that Marvel can’t completely overshadow it.

Don’t want to miss the next hidden gem set to hit theaters? We’ve got the full lineup of movies with release dates over the next few months in one handy guide to make sure you don’t miss anything.
