By the power of grey hairs! Masters of the Universe might feature the original onscreen He-Man

The upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot from Mattel and Amazon MGM has found a new He-Man in Nicholas Galitzine. But if Creed II star Dolph Lundgren's hinting is true, they've found an old one as well

At 67 years old, Dolph Lundgren isn't done acting. Hell, he's not even done with the franchises that made him famous. Fans of 2018's Creed II have already seen him return to the Rocky-verse as Ivan Drago, but in 2026, we may just see him revisit iconic piece of pop culture - because according to a recent interview, it sure seems like Lundgren is hinting he'll be in Mattel & Amazon MGM's Masters of the Universe reboot.

In case you don't know, Lundgren played the original live-action He-Man in the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, opposite Frank Langella as Skeletor (I know, right?). Speaking to ExtraTV ahead of his upcoming documentary. Dolph: Unbreakable, the actor was asked whether he would be returning to the franchise for the next live-action take on the saga, expected in 2026.

"Maybe, yeah," Lundgren said with a not-at-all subtle smirk, "You'll have to check it out when it comes out."

OK look - there's no official word from the film's producers whether or not Lungdren will be in the MotU reboot, so don't take this as a surefire confirmation. But I mean, come on - did you see his face when the reporter asked that question? Ivan Drago may be able to stay stone-faced, but in this writer's opinion, his real-life counterpart clearly isn't as good at it, especially when it comes to industry secrets.

What we can say for sure, though, is that Lundgren will not be returning to the role of Prince Adam, AKA He-Man, as the studios have found a new (much younger) lead in the form of Nicholas Galitzine. Actually, let me amend that - Lundgren will certainly not be returning as the main He-Man. In this era of cinematic multiverses that is upon us, with Leonard Nimoy's Spock and Tobey Maguire's Spider-man appearing in the same films as their younger counterparts, anything is possible.

Now, time to take a big gulp of coffee and Google who is playing Skeletor in the reboot. Masters of the Universe is slated for release June 5, 2026.
