A Minecraft Movie was nothing less than a box office surprise. The video game adaptation grossed $955 in its theatrical run, making it the one of the highest-grossing movies of 2025. It has even outgrossed every single Marvel Studios release. Maybe it was the TikTok memes, or the nostalgia factor, but A Minecraft Movie gave Warner Bros. a much-needed win.
So, we should all be expecting an official sequel announcement any day now.
Earlier this year it was reported that a sequel was in the development stages, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an official announcement before the end of the year.
Sebastian Hansen, who played Henry in the movie, hasn’t heard anything one way or another, but the thought of returning to the Overworld excites him.
“I want to see more from the whole cast, because I know in the movie it was like the guys and the girls went on different sections and all that stuff,” Hansen says during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Con. “At the end of the day, if I sit down and think about what the next movie will be, I have no idea. [director] Jared [Hess] has like this weird mind. He has this weird brain that makes these crazy good movies. They’re different movies, but it’s not what we usually see, so I can’t think of anything at all. I can’t think of what the next one will be, because it’s too out there. But I hope it’s going to be something where it’s related to Minecraft. I hope to see more of new characters or something new. I hope to see more action between all of us.”
If you look through Hess’s filmography, Hansen’s point becomes clear. From Nacho Libre to Napoleon Dynamite, Hess has proved himself to be malleable as a storyteller. Wherever the inevitable Minecraft sequel goes, it’s going to be exciting and unexpected.
