Marvel confirms Avengers: Doomsday will feature three universes and lots of colliding in official synopsis

The MCU, the Fantastic Four, and X-Men are all colliding in the latest Avengers: Doomsday synopsis.

Now that the first trailer has been released, it's no surprise that everyone is looking for more hints about what will happen in Avengers: Doomsday. Who will be there? Who will survive? How will it set up the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars? That last one seems to have been answered, partially, at least, with Marvel's new synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday confirming that the movie will feature three separate universes colliding.

The official synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday has landed on sites like Rotten Tomatoes. It is relatively vague; for example, not one character is mentioned in the paragraph. The synopsis reads:

“Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See it in Infinity Vision, the way it's meant to be seen, on bigger, brighter and more immersive screens.”

There are a few key points to pick up on here. The first is that this is described as the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga, which presumably will end with Secret Wars in 2027. However, the most important part is the mention of three universes colliding. These appear to be the MCU, the Fantastic Four universe, and the X-Men universe, all of which have already featured in teasers, with characters from each meeting - some might say 'colliding,' in fact - in the new trailer.

This language of universes colliding seems to directly set up Avengers: Secret Wars, but the big question we’ve got is whether there are more universes and more characters coming that we don’t know about. We won’t find out until Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas on December 18, 2026. Until then, why not watch the trailer and embrace Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom accent one more time?
