Marvel maybe Blade star Mahershala Ali says the "best part" of making movies is when you can actually complete it, like with Jurassic World Rebirth

It's been six years since Marvel announced Mahershala Ali would play Blade, and it's not happened yet, but at least he's made a whole Jurassic World in the meantime

Despite seemingly being unable to make it into production, Marvel Studios’ troubled Blade reboot is having a moment, with former Blade trilogy writer David Goyer revealing that Marvel turned down his offer of help to get the project off the ground, and now star Mahershala Ali promoting his appearance in the new Jurassic World movie, offering no shortage of chances for him to talk about what it’s like to not play the character he was announced as playing six long years ago.

“I’m just taking it a day at a time. I’m doing the best work I can,” Ali said when asked by The Hollywood Reporter about the status of the movie. He went on, “I would love for Blade to happen; we’ll see, I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am.”

Of course, right now, he’s appearing in Jurassic World Rebirth — something that offered an unexpected opportunity for the smallest of digs at Marvel for the Blade debacle.

“These types of films are so hard to shoot because of the way in which they’re shot; you can do one scene in three countries over four months. So I wouldn’t necessarily say as a performer, as an actor, that that’s necessarily enjoyable because it’s difficult, it’s hard to make sense of,” he told THR. “So I think if anything, you have to operate with a certain degree of trust that this is all going to fit together well, and so I guess the best part of it is actually completing it and getting to see what [director] Gareth [Edwards] was able to edit and put together. He just did a wonderful job in post.”

Man, getting a movie finished, doesn’t that sound great? If only other studios were able to get movies finished. Or even started.

Blade may be the Daywalker, but Mahershala Ali is proving to be very comfortable with shade, it seems.

Jurassic World Rebirth is in theaters July 2. Marvel’s Blade reboot… may happen one day.
