Children of Blood and Bone author officially cuts ties with movie adaptation
Tomi Adeyemi posted a compilation of messages she has sent about walking away from the Children of Blood and Bone film.

Many authors dream of seeing their work adapted for the big screen. It is a big, flashy Hollywood-sized sign that they have Made It, which is more validation than most writers ever get. However, for Children of Blood and Bone author Tomi Adeyemi, the process has become so difficult and taxing that she has totally cut ties with the upcoming movie based on her bestselling book.
Tomi Adeyemi made a post on her TikTok account over the weekend that seems to cut all ties with the upcoming movie adaptation of Children of Blood and Bone, which is due out in January 2027 from Paramount Pictures. In the video, she addresses fans who have asked why she doesn’t post about the movie. While Adeyemi doesn’t speak in the video, it features screenshots of messages she has sent about why she has been so silent about the matter.
The most damning message appears to be aimed at Amandla Stenberg, who is playing Princess Amari in Children of Blood and Bone. “Do not ever use my name in an interview or video again. Do not text me. Do not call me.”
The timestamp of that message was February 2025, which would have put it right around the time that Stenberg posted an 8-minute-long video on TikTok saying that Adeyemi wanted her cast in the role.
“There is a reason I will not post anything about the adaptation of my work. That’s all,” read another message in the short post.
The final screenshot on the post was addressed to an unknown recipient. “Since someone asked, I have not seen the film, and I will not watch it,” Adeyemi said. “It’s been painful holding this back from you all. And I’m sorry if any of you thought I didn’t care. I will always care about US. More than any glitter.”
We might not ever know exactly what caused Tomi Adeyemi to walk away from the Children of Blood and Bone movie. Previously, she had been serving as an executive producer and had helped write the script, so she’s been involved since the very beginning. However, we probably shouldn’t expect to see the author at the big red carpet premiere next year. On the plus side, she's got more time to work on her fan-fiction (which we're very excited to read.)
